LJ Amsterdam
LJ Amsterdam (she/her) is a social movement organizer from New York City. Since Occupy Wall Street, LJ has trained close to 20,000 people to take action. A former DJ and a dancer, LJ was a co-director of the seminal grassroots direct action training organization The Ruckus Society for four years. Before that, she organized with homeowners fighting foreclosure, youth affected by substance abuse and incarceration, and Indigenous people on the front lines of climate change. She recently wrote a report for Future Currents — entitled Hopeful Monsters — on movement upsurges and solidarity, and is a member of Freedom Trainers, a group advancing strategies and tactics of mass noncooperation to fight rising authoritarianism.
