Kumar Rao

Kumar Rao is a Senior Fellow at the Initiative for Community Power at NYU Law School. He is a social justice lawyer who has spent his career partnering with grassroots organizations and elected officials in the fight to strengthen our democracy, and for racial and economic justice at the local, state, and federal levels. Kumar is a Lecturer at Columbia Law School, and previously served in senior policy, political, and strategy roles at the Working Families Party and the Center for Popular Democracy.  A former public defender, he has also represented thousands of indigent clients in facing New York’s draconian and oppressive criminal legal system.
