Stuart Karaffa

Stuart Karaffa is an at-large member on the Steering Committee of the Metro D.C. chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America. Since joining DSA in January 2017, Stuart has primarily led DSA-backed efforts to elect democratic socialists to office throughout Maryland, D.C., and Virginia. Stuart’s other organizing efforts in the chapter include helping to coordinate Metro D.C. DSA’s role during the 2019 #ShutDownDC climate strike actions and assisting with the chapter’s participation in the ongoing Reclaim Rent Control campaign, which is seeking to expand and strengthen rent control in D.C. Stuart also served as commissioner and treasurer on the Mount Pleasant Advisory Neighborhood Commission in D.C. As a commissioner, Stuart focused on housing and transportation equity issues.
