James Lopez
James Lopez is the Executive Director of Power U Center For Social Change, an organization that develops the leadership of working class youth of color in Miami Dade, Florida. As the Director of Power U, the organization has been able to win reforms that provides additional resources to students in Miami Dade County Public School, including mental health staff and comprehensive sex education. A graduate of the University of Buffalo, James started organizing in various student groups and direct actions collective after the murder of Mike Brown. He is committed to helping youth organizers build stronger organizations. He is a trainer with BOLD (Black Organizers for Leadership & Dignity) and is on the board of the Funder’s Collaborative on Youth Organizing (FCYO).
