MPA is currently accepting inquiries to hire a Lobbyist, a full-time, salaried position that reports to the Deputy Director. The role includes:
- Growing new and deepening existing relationships between elected officials, their staff and MPA;
- Developing MPA’s legislative agenda and advocating for it in the state house;
- Collaboratively developing legislative strategy with MPA staff, volunteers, and allies;
- Ensuring MPA’s agenda is incorporated into all the organization’s activities
Qualifications:
- Strong commitment to progressive values;
- Track record of working on racial and economic justice, preferably with strong relationships to communities of color, and fluency in languages other than English;
- Excellent judgment in a fast-moving, complex, political campaigns context;
- Team-oriented with superb relational and communications skills
- Proficient in creating powerful, compelling written and oral communications;
- An ability to meet deadlines and thrive in a fast-paced work environment;
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, and Facebook/Twitter
- A willingness to work flexible hours, including some evenings and occasional weekends;
- Some experience in the realms of fundraising, communications, or field organizing for advocacy organizations or political campaigns preferred; and
- Legal expertise a plus.
The position is unionized and full-time at a competitive wage in the range of $40-$65,000, depending on experience. Open until filled. The Action Center on Race and the Economy (ACRE) drives campaigns that seek to win structural change by directly taking on the corporations responsible for pillaging communities of color and working-class communities and harming our environment. Through partnerships with organizations involved in local racial, economic, environmental, and educational justice campaigns, we provide strategic campaign coordination and campaign infrastructure with an explicit racial justice analysis.
The Senior Organizer is responsible for externally pushing forward ACRE’s key program areas in coordination with other ACRE staff, external partners and allies. The Senior Organizer is expected to synthesize campaign strategy, research and political education into coherent external organizing
designed to advance campaigns and bring in new partners. The Senior Organizer is a Grade 2 position which currently reports to Co-ED.
Key Duties and Responsibilities

- Connect multiple organizing partners working on similar work across organization
- Develop relationships with new partners
- Work with partners to push ACRE’s analysis
- Keep track of current work partners are doing and support they may need
- Help coordinate national actions
- Represent ACRE at national campaign meetings, when appropriate
- Work with communications team to represent ACRE publicly regarding campaign work including media appearances as a spokesperson
- Help convene national meetings and calls with partners or public
Qualifications:
- A strong commitment to progressive social change and racial justice, a familiarity with the issues that are central to ACRE’s work and a passion for ACRE’s vision and mission
- Two years organizing experience with a union or grassroots community organization
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically and execute organizing plans
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot issues as they arise, make contingency plans, and shift plans as needed
- Willingness to work with a national team spread across multiple cities
- Strong critical thinking skills and ability to think creatively and innovatively
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in politically sensitive and high-pressure environments
- Demonstrated commitment to community and/or labor organizing and experience working with women and communities of color for social change
- Effective time management skills, including prioritizing and managing multiple tasks, with light supervision
- Willingness to work long and irregular hours and travel as needed (when pandemic ends)
- A good sense of humor

New Virginia Majority is hiring a Regional Field Director to manage its paid outreach programs. Ideal candidates will be highly organized, detail-oriented and self-starters.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The RFD is responsible for recruiting, training and managing a team of leads and canvassers with intention to meet yearly voter outreach goals. RFD’s must maintain consistent reporting, and will also be responsible for supporting community engagement and volunteer efforts. RFD’s will need to complete administrative duties as assigned.
Required Skills:
Competitive applicants for RFD must be goal oriented and have field organizing or electoral organizing experience. They must have strong leadership skills and experience managing a large staff. Knowledge and experience using VAN and similar voter outreach tools is strongly preferred. Other skills required include:
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
- Ability to work irregular/long hours
- Ability to meet goals on deadline and work under pressure
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Self- motivated and able to work independently

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

New Virginia Majority is looking to hire a full-time Lead Community Organizer who will recruit, engage, activate and retain members, develop leaders, build community-based leadership teams, conduct political education trainings, and execute campaign strategy on our housing campaign primarily with Latinx immigrants in the Richmond metro area.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Drive efforts to build strong relationships and identify and develop leaders into clear membership roles. Timely and aggressive follow up with leads generated by field efforts including one-on-one meetings, house visits and other methods of grassroots outreach.
- Manage regular membership meetings with a standing agenda and supporting new leaders to facilitate meetings geared towards peer engagement and immediate activation.
- Lead and supervise a team of 1 or more organizers.
- Create actions, trainings and mobilization opportunities in order to activate members and activists.
- Mobilize and track engagement of members and activists at various events and field opportunities in database.
- Develop the political consciousness of the affiliate organizations’ leaders through popular education, reflection, leadership development and developing appropriate educational materials.
- Provide support to leaders.
- Participate in campaign development, strategizing and implementation.
- Participate in building campaign coalitions and key relationships with campaign-related allies.
- Willing to put in the hours to get the work done, including some nights and weekends.
- Perform other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Committed to New Virginia Majority’s mission of social, racial and economic justice.
- 2 or more years experience in community organizing and running and winning issue campaigns.
- 1+ year experience with supervising organizing staff.
- Ability to develop and maintain a variety of relationships on multiple levels.
- Demonstrated ability to meet multiple deadlines.
- Self-motivated and works well both independently and on a team.
- Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects.
- Ability to take direction and constructive feedback.
- Driver’s license and access to a car.
- A minimum one-year commitment to the position.
- Experience organizing immigrant communities is preferred.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English languages is a must.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Salaries are competitive. Salary range is $45,000 - $52,000, commensurate with experience, and comes with an excellent benefits package, including health, vision, dental, and stipends for phone and transportation.
