New Virginia Majority is hiring a full-time Distributed Organizing Director who will lead New Virginia Majority’s distributed organizing pilot project. This campaign will prioritize the creation and launching of decentralized ‘right to vote’ chapters in key Richmond and Hampton Roads communities. The ‘right to vote’ chapters will be led by formerly incarcerated people and their loved ones who are waging a multi year campaign to amend the constitution of Virginia so that people with felony convictions are no longer disenfranchised. This work will involve the creation and testing of a new structure of member engagement and leadership body that is replicable. We aim to apply this model to our statewide deep organizing work, as it proves successful.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead New Virginia’s distributed organizing model, including supervising and coaching lead community organizers
- Training and coaching core formerly incarcerated leaders and developing those leaders to create and run their respective ‘right to vote’ chapters that allows them to grow their membership and conduct local organizing and campaign activities
- Conducting mass trainings for members on organizing skills and the grand strategy for amending the constitution
- Develop the political consciousness of leaders and members through popular education, reflection, leadership development and developing appropriate educational materials

New Virginia Majority is looking to hire a full-time Lead AAPI Community Organizer who will recruit, engage, activate and retain members, develop leaders, build community-based leadership teams, conduct political education trainings, and execute campaign strategy on local and state campaigns.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Drive efforts to build strong relationships and identify and develop leaders into clear membership roles. Timely and aggressive follow up with leads generated by field efforts including one-on-one meetings, house visits and other methods of grassroots outreach.
- Manage regular membership meetings with a standing agenda and supporting new leaders to facilitate meetings geared towards peer engagement and immediate activation.
- Lead and supervise a team of up to 3 organizers.
- Create actions, trainings and mobilization opportunities in order to activate members and activists.
- Mobilize and track engagement of members and activists at various events and field opportunities in database.
- Develop the political consciousness of the affiliate organizations’ leaders through popular education, reflection, leadership development and developing appropriate educational materials.
- Provide support to leaders.
- Participate in campaign development, strategizing and implementation.
- Participate in building campaign coalitions and key relationships with campaign-related allies.
- Willing to put in the flexible hours to get the work done, including some nights and weekends.
- Perform other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Committed to New Virginia Majority’s mission of social, racial and economic justice.
- 2 or more years experience in community organizing and running issue campaigns.
- 1+ year experience with supervising organizing staff.
- Ability to develop and maintain a variety of relationships on multiple levels.
- Demonstrated ability to meet multiple deadlines.
- Self-motivated and works well both independently and on a team.
- Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects.
- Ability to take direction and constructive feedback.
- Driver’s license and access to a car.
- A minimum one-year commitment to the position.
- Experience organizing immigrant communities is preferred.
- Preference for ability to speak an Asian language – especially Urdu, Bengali, Nepalese, or Vietnamese. Strong writing skills in English.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Salaries are $47,000 TO $57,000 commensurate with experience, and comes with an excellent benefits package, including health, vision, dental, and stipends for phone and transportation.
