The Action Center on Race and the Economy (ACRE) drives campaigns that seek to win structural change by directly taking on the financial elite responsible for pillaging communities of color and working-class communities and harming our environment. Through partnerships with organizations involved in local racial, economic, environmental, and educational justice campaigns, we provide strategic campaign coordination and campaign infrastructure with an explicit racial justice analysis. The Political Director will report to the Co-Directors and will work closely with other ACRE staff and with partner organizations. They will work with local and national political representatives to expand the impact of ACRE and move forward our political and legislative agenda. 

This position will be based in Washington, DC.

Job responsibilities include:

● Developing strategies and work plans to advance our political and legislative priorities

● Working with senior staff on political projects that advance the policy and political goals of the organization

● Building relationships with key allies, coalitions, organizations, candidates, and elected officials

● Providing strategic advice to senior leadership on evolving political dynamics and strategies that advance ACRE’s campaigns and political mission

● Fundraising in for ACRE’s 501(c)(4) organization

● Representing ACRE to a wide variety of political stakeholders

● Working cooperatively with other organizations, elected officials, unions, and their political/field representatives to build local and national relationships

● Driving the political components of ACRE’s campaigns, such as local legislative strategies and federal political strategies

The ideal candidate will have:

● A strong commitment to progressive social change and racial justice, a familiarity with the issues that are central to ACRE’s work and a passion for ACRE’s vision and mission

● A sharp analysis of the role of corporate power in extracting wealth and power from communities of color within the capitalist system

● 5+ years of organizing experience

● At least 2 years in a political role within a c4 organization or a political campaign

● Strong political network and relationships among progressive leaders and organizations

● Ability to mobilize allies in issue-based and electoral coalitions

● Excellent political analysis and communications skills, written and verbal

● Familiarity with political news media

POSITION OVERVIEW

Data is one of the most important and powerful ways we support grassroots organizing and social change in the states. MV/N are seeking a well-organized, self-starter for a full-time, year-round position as Data and Technology Manager. The Data and Technology Manager plays a key role in the advancement of Maine’s progressive movement. MV/N offers a range of voter and demographic data with a range of technologies to support partner programs and inform field organizing strategies. The Data and Technology Manager will lead this work at the direction of the Executive Director.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

Data Strategy and Table Support:

·         Using data, VAN, and other technologies, work with MV/N partner organizations to support the development of their field organizing and voter contact plans and make strategic recommendations on how best to use data effectively, including standards for data collection, data acquisition, and preservation.

·         Work with other table staff to lead MV/N on the production of written reports, data analysis, and coordination efforts; providing strategic, data-driven recommendations to partners on data and civic engagement technology.

·         Provide relevant materials that support collective strategy and partner programs, including the creation of target universes, list match reports, and trends/disparity analyses.

·         Provide technical assistance with the use of VAN and other technologies which includes handling partner data requests, uploading data, setting up predictive dialer phone banks, robocalls and robosurveys, supporting MiniVAN, etc.

·         Strategic planning assistance – support coalition partners through the development of campaign plans (electoral, civic engagement, voting rights, and issue campaigns), providing technical assistance, responding to programmatic requests, and participating actively in long-range strategic planning for the Maine progressive movement.

VAN & Tools Management:

·         Monitor the use of the VAN system to ensure compliance with state and national policies, including the data MOU process. Provide partner staff and volunteers training on better data hygiene and data collection practices.

·         Maintain documentation of all voter contact, turnout, and election protection data.

·         Make recommendations for additional field tools that will support the table’s strategy and partner fieldwork.

·         Provide VAN administration by managing user and security settings for table partners and their consultants

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications. Please consider applying even if you don’t meet all of them currently.

Required:

·          At least one year serving in a data role with a campaign or advocacy organization, or at least two previous cycles of field management experience.

·         Experience using VAN (Voter Activation Network)/VoteBuilder.

·         Base knowledge of how to read and understand voter, demographic, and other data sets and ability to communicate about that data to non-technical audiences.

·         Advanced proficiency in Excel.

·         A willingness and aptitude to seek out and learn new technical skills that will further the mission of the table and assist in presenting data to partners in an accessible manner.

·         Demonstrated commitment to racial and gender equity and record of success working with communities of color, women, low-income people, LGBTQIA individuals, and/or other historically marginalized communities.

Nice to have but not required:

·         Experience working in coalition with partners or experience working in diverse communities.

·          Experience mentoring, managing, or training staff is preferred.

·         Experience with or knowledge of data management, database administration, reporting and analysis, and/or digital organizing tools is a plus.

·         Familiarity with SMS-based and/or relational voter contact tools.

·         Experience using SQL, along with Python, R, Julia, or any other data analysis tool.

Founded in 1986, CAAAV: Organizing Asian Communities builds the intergenerational leadership of Asian immigrant communities in New York City to fight for racial, gender and economic justice. CAAAV is looking for a part-time ATU Chinese Membership Organizer with a background in outreach, base-building, leadership development and grassroots organizing in working-class Asian communities. This position is a part-time position at 20 hours / week.

About the Position:

The ATU Chinese Membership Organizer is responsible for building and coordinating a membership base of Chinese tenants in the Queensbridge Houses and growing a new base in the Woodside and Ravenswood Houses to demand improved living conditions and stop gentrification. The Membership Organizer will be supervised by ATU’s Lead Organizer. The overall goal of the project is to develop the leadership of the tenants to join larger multiracial fights for systemic and institutional changes at NYCHA.

The ATU Chinese Membership Organizer will be focusing on:

  • Building and mobilizing our Chinese base in Western Queens, primarily in the Queensbridge Houses, through outreach and 1:1s;
  • Developing the leadership of members in Queensbridge around the fight to fully fund public housing and other emerging needs such as fighting privatization and gentrification in Long Island City through weekly and monthly meetings, with curriculum development support from the Lead Organizer;
  • Participating in organization-wide meetings, events and strategy sessions as needed.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have/be:

  • Bilingual in Cantonese (preferred) or Mandarin – enough to engage members in organizing and political conversations – written ability a plus;
  • Strong commitment to CAAAV’s mission and movement building;
  • Strong working knowledge of issues affecting low-income, immigrant, communities of color and relevant experience working in Asian immigrant communities;
  • At least one year experience with outreach, base-building, member leadership development and organizing campaigns;
  • Ability to run workshops and trainings for members;

Intergenerational Leadership Development Coordinator

JOB DESCRIPTION

Founded in 1986, CAAAV: Organizing Asian Communities builds the leadership of Asian immigrant communities in New York City to fight for racial, gender and economic justice. CAAAV’s primary bases are the Chinatown Tenants Union, which organizes Chinese tenants in rent-stabilized housing in Chinatown and the Asian Tenants Union, which organizes Chinese, Bangladeshi and Korean tenants in public housing in Western Queens. 

CAAAV is seeking a dynamic Intergenerational Leadership Development Coordinator to manage the organization’s overall leadership development, with a specific focus on organizing and developing the leadership of youth members of our base. The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to develop political education curriculum for participants with different languages and literacy levels and to build relationships with working class Asian immigrant youth. This is a full-time position (40 hours/week) with paid overtime and benefits. The Intergenerational Leadership Development Coordinator will be supervised by CAAAV’s Executive Director.

About the Position:

The Intergenerational Leadership Development Coordinator is responsible for managing CAAAV’s leadership development and political education across our different geographic bases and across generations. This position will have a specific focus on youth organizing, outreach and relationship-building in Chinatown and Western Queens.  

The primary responsibilities of the Intergenerational Leadership Development Coordinator are:

  • Developing and implementing an organization-wide leadership development plan with the Executive Director;
  • Developing organization-wide political education and campaign skills-building curriculum for adult and youth members of CAAAV;
  • Training organizers on political education and campaign skills-building curriculum in a ‘train-the-trainers’- style for monthly and weekly membership meetings;
  • Coordinating organizers to consistently track shifting levels of member leadership and to identify and fill leadership and political education gaps;
  • Bringing Asian youth in Chinatown and western Queens into CAAAV’s bases and campaigns, through door-knocking with organizers, building relationships with schools and community organizations, 1:1s, and other creative forms of outreach;
  • Planning and facilitating CTU and ATU youth membership meetings or breakouts;
  • Facilitating the involvement of Asian youth in coalitions and campaign strategy meetings;
  • Participating in organization-wide meetings, events and strategy sessions as needed.

Qualifications:

We’re seeking candidates who excel in relationship-building, have strong verbal and written communication skills, and have strong project management skills with a strong commitment to CAAAV’s mission and movement building. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Ability to develop and curriculum accessible for varying levels of literacy and across multiple languages;
  • Experience with outreach, base-building, member leadership development, and curriculum development;
  • Experience with youth and community organizing;
  • Experience managing multiple projects and an ability to manage a project with a team of staff, members and volunteers;
  • Strong commitment to CAAAV’s mission and movement building;

About the Position

We seek an energetic, rigorous, creative and experienced Senior Manager of Strategic Organizing to join CPD/A’s Base-Building Team and support bold, transformative, power-building organizing programs at CPD/A affiliates. The priority for this role in 2020 is to ensure that a key set of grassroots, affiliated, community organizations are supported in driving long-term base-building work through civic engagement and voter participation over the course of 2020. 

This support will include:

  • Strengthening affiliates’ membership models and leadership ladders;
  • Recruiting, placing and supporting lead organizers and organizing directors;
  • Developing and sharing strong models for electoral relational organizing programs and long-term base-building through electoral fieldwork.

Primary Responsibilities 

The Senior Manager of Strategic Organizing’s primary responsibilities will include:

  • Providing intensive, sustained support to two Midwest affiliated grassroots organizations to build integrated voter engagement programs, raise required resources, staff appropriately, and take advantage of opportunities for growth and engagement in their organizations;
  • Working closely with 3-5 other affiliated grassroots organizations in strategic regions to launch strong political and organizing programs;
  • Recruiting and supporting the leadership of a next generation of leaders of these organizations through supporting leadership pipelines within the CPD/A network;
  • Engaging with CPD/A’s Civic Engagement team to center the CPD/A’s long-term base-building goals.

A strong candidate will have:

  • Significant experience as an organizer and institution-builder; 
  • Deep alignment with CPD/A’s theory of change and commitment to build strong people’s institutions; 
  • A track record of effectiveness in campaigning, electoral engagement, base-building, staff and member training and leadership development, and building and sustaining coalition and ally relationships;
  • Some experience with other activities central to building new organizing efforts such as fundraising and communications.

Job Requirements 

  • A demonstrated commitment to social and racial justice issues and understanding of challenges facing immigrant communities, communities of color, and low and moderate income people;
  • At least 8 years’ experience in progressive campaigns with community-based organizations;
  • Experience as a supervisor, developer of organizers, and institution builder;
  • Strong track record in base-building, campaigning (issue and electoral), and leadership development;
  • Ability to cultivate and work deeply with diverse organizations and partners;
  • Experience working in and organizing in immigrant communities, communities of color, and low and moderate income communities;

The National Domestic Workers Alliance (NDWA) is the nation’s leading voice for respect, recognition and labor standards for nannies, housecleaners and home care workers. Through leadership development, strategic campaigns and alliance building, we are raising employment standards for the domestic workforce while building a powerful movement for social and global justice. The Alliance formed in 2007 at the US Social Forum. For the first several years of its existence, NDWA was solely a network of affiliate organizations, independent local domestic worker organizations. In 2016, NDWA launched a membership association to allow domestic workers around the country--including in locations where there is no local organization--to join NDWA, ensuring the domestic worker movement builds the power necessary to successfully advance an ambitious agenda and that worker leadership and dues payment sustains the movement. NDWA is currently made up of 70 affiliate organizations and chapters, and a network of individual workers throughout the U.S.

NDWA seeks a Member Engagement Digital Campaigner to use online tools, with a focus on peer to peer text, email and social media channels, to support and communicate with workers, troubleshoot and triage problems workers are having, support and grow membership, and support development and roll out of online programming. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Utilize online technologies, specifically peer to peer text, social media channels, email and and other digital tactics and tools, to engage and deepen trust with domestic workers. 
  • Monitor NDWA’s worker-facing online presences; respond to worker inquiries and questions; identify, assess and act on trends in how workers relate to NDWA in online spaces. 
  • Maintain private member social channels, including community moderation and content generation. 
  • Identify workers and support them to get involved:
    • Online in various digital channels and closed spaces
    • In distributed methods locally in support of policy reform of benefit to their lives
    • Locally with Chapters and in coordination with organizers, the Digital Campaign Strategist and the WeDream in Black team
  • In conjunction with Member Engagement team, support the development and testing of online programming of interest to workers to engage and convert workers to membership and deeper activism, including online training, remote courses, campaign actions and other activism opportunities. 
  • Track worker engagement across digital channels and utilize analysis for audience understanding, targeting and refinement.
  • Create and maintain weekly reporting, including data analysis and metrics.
  • Write as needed for online ads, video scripts, websites, SMS, and email.
  • Support with translation of digital copy from English to Spanish.

Job Requirements: 

  • A native or fluent and culturally competent Spanish speaker; excellent writing, translation and interpretation skills in both Spanish and English.
  • Minimum 2 years online organizing experience, including experience with email, text and social media management.
  • Familiarity with peer to peer text. 
  • Familiarity with use of Facebook and other social media platforms, as well as social media management systems and online tools. Direct experience with WhatsApp a plus.
  • Familiarity with data-informed online organizing, including multi-channel digital engagement tracking, list segmentation, A/B testing and CRMs. Direct experience with Action Network, EveryAction and/or other advocacy platforms.
  • Excellent time management skills, including ability to meet deadlines, work successfully in a team, handle supervision, and attention to detail

About the Position

The Center for Popular Democracy/CPD Action (CPD/CPDA) is seeking a full-time digital organizer for the Innovations Team to take our online to offline organizing campaign around healthcare justice and saving democracy to the next level. The person in this role will develop and execute high-impact and game-changing digital strategy that empower our members to achieve concrete victories for people of color and working people. This position is crucial to our team goal of innovating online to offline organizing strategies and building CPD’s individual membership.

The Digital Organizer will report to the Senior Director of Mobilization and Advocacy.

Primary Responsibilities

The Digital Organizer will:

  • Develop content for social media including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram and Twitter 

  • Create, edit and produce engaging video content to move people to join our fight for Medicare for All

  • Reach out to supporters and potential supporters online engaging them in initial organizing conversations to move them down a ladder of engagement leadership pathway

  • Support a robust membership donor program that builds power and sustainability for healthcare organizing for the long term

  • Write compelling emails, petitions, and stories that tell the story of why need a Medicare for All healthcare system

  • Manage day-to-day email program and process from beginning to end from copywriting to approvals to implementation of high quality emails that deepen our base, inspire action, and raise money

  • Implement strategies and tactics to grow our base of supporters over email, text and among other lists

  • Conduct, analyze, and share findings of message testing to identify the most effective organizing strategies

  • Use analytics to improve our messaging, programs and campaign to strengthen impact

  • Keep projects on track and communicate regularly with the team

  • Additional digital campaigning responsibilities as assigned

Job Requirements 

  • You have 2-5 years of organizing and digital campaigning experience 

  • You nerd out about messaging best practices and how to tell stories that move people

  • You are able to keep cool working in high-stress environments and deploy timely content during rapid response scenarios

Salary and Benefits

This is a union position. Salary will be determined according to a salary scale which takes into account years’ experience, location, job category, and other factors, but is expected to be $65,000-$75,000 and category 2. The CBA is available here.

The salary range for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience. We have a generous benefits package, including health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, 15 vacation days per year, 10 sick days per year, 13 paid holidays per year, and contributions to individuals’ 401K plans.
